Will I lose my health insurance when I quit my job?

I am considering quitting my job to go back to school, but will I lose my health insurance?
My company pays for my insurance and I pay a discounted rate for my family's in that same plan. I'm afraid to have no insurance, especially for my children...my son has asthma.
Is there a grace period in which you keep health insurance for a month or so? What can I do for good health insurance if I quit?
